Percy Martinez has been practicing law since 1993. He began his career working with the late Attorney General of the United States, Janet Reno. Over the years, the work has led to recognition from Miami Magazine as a Top Lawyer in South Florida and twice as a Leading Attorney of the Southeastern United States in Forbes magazine. For over a decade, Florida Trend included him among their Legal Elite, and eventually inducted him into the Legal Elite Hall of Fame; a group of approximately 185 attorneys. SuperLawyers® has selected him among the Top 100 in Florida and Top 50 in South Florida.

Percy concentrates on prosecuting medical negligence claims. His peers have voted him Miami Magazine’s Top Lawyer in Medical Malpractice (Plaintiffs) every year since 2016.

Percy has been Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by The Florida Bar five times. The National Board of Trial Advocacy has certified him as an expert in both Civil Trial Law and Civil Pre-trial Litigation. Martindale-Hubbell rates him AV® Preeminent.
In 2017, Percy earned National Board Certification in Medical Malpractice law from the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys. He’s one of approximately 17 lawyers in Florida who have obtained that distinction.
Percy is a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, Trial Lawyer Honorary Society, and serves as a member of both the Trial Law Institute and the Diversity Law Institute.
The Trial Lawyers Board of Regents gave him a National Litigator Award in 2014 and again in 2015. He’s a Lifetime Member of The Million Dollar Advocates Forum, having obtained multiple seven-figure jury verdicts and settlements over the years.
In 2011, Percy obtained the largest award in a lawsuit against baptist hospital in Florida; approximately $8.25 million. Florida Top Verdicts recognized that result. He continues handling dram shop cases individually and serves as co-counsel throughout Florida, assisting other lawyers who represent people injured by bars, stores, and restaurants that served alcohol improperly.
In December 2017, he obtained the largest award in a medical malpractice lawsuit; around $17.65 million. After jury selection and about four days of testimony in what was expected to be a 10-day trial, GEICO executives at corporate headquarters in Miami authorized a consent judgment before the verdict came in.
Percy has been elected to membership in the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
He’s also received national recognition for his work seeking to overcome tribal sovereign immunity on behalf of critically injured clients in multiple lawsuits filed against the Seminole Tribe of Florida.
Percy remains committed to representing individuals who have been injured and families of relatives who have been killed as a result of medical malpractice, motor vehicle negligence, and dram shop violations. He’s admitted to practice in Florida and has tried and argued cases in state and federal courts throughout Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, and the rest of the state.
Since 1993, Percy has combined his drive for helping others with precision advocacy. He’s represented victims of negligence in cases ranging from catastrophic vehicular accidents to surgical errors to failed hospital equipment to nursing home neglect. In addition to representing families who have lost members due to wrongful death, he’s represented clients who suffered spinal perforations, brain traumas, loss of limbs, paralysis, and organ loss.
Most of the clients who come to the firm have already been through something devastating. Going up against a physician, a multinational company, or an insurance carrier with seemingly unlimited resources and teams of lawyers can feel impossible. That reality drives the work Percy and his team do every day.
Unlike many medical malpractice firms that take on thousands of cases annually, Percy’s practice is selective. The firm chooses cases that have merit and where they can make a significant difference for the family or victim. When the firm takes on a case, it receives detailed attention and care to maximize the possibility of success.
Someone at the firm is always available to speak with clients about their case and any concerns that come up. Consultations are free, and the firm works on contingency; clients don’t pay unless there’s a recovery.
BACKGROUND

Percy’s work ethic came from his family and has driven him to succeed in all aspects of his life; from excelling in school to winning in the courtroom today. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida in 1989. He then attended Florida State University College of Law, graduating in 1993. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1997.
After law school, Percy began his career with the late Attorney General of the United States, Janet Reno. That background starting in public service and transitioning to plaintiff’s advocacy shaped his approach to fighting for clients against well resourced defendants.
In the years since, Percy has built a reputation representing victims of negligence and malpractice in complex cases throughout Miami, Orlando, Jacksonville, Tampa, and courts across the state.

OUR MISSION
Percy’s goal is to leverage his clients’ rights under the law together with his experience to obtain a sizeable monetary award through trial or settlement. He spends most of his time planning, strategizing, and executing a successful approach for every case the office takes on.
Victims of negligence and family members bearing the burden of losing a loved one deserve strong representation. Serious injury and death can have a devastating emotional and financial impact. The firm exists to fight for those clients against physicians, corporations, and insurance companies that assume most attorneys won’t take them to trial.
If the firm selects a case for representation, the client can expect it to be handled with detailed attention and care. The firm has successfully represented clients in negligence and malpractice matters resulting in multi-million dollar monetary awards, and brings all of that combined experience to every case.
