RATON, N.M.- Leader of an opposition party in Zimbabwe and his crew of four others died in a fatal helicopter crash adjacent to New Mexico-Colorado, said federal agencies.
The group had originally planned to reach Emery Gap Ranch, an area owned by one of Bennett’s Friends who purchased it last year. Six people were on board when the plane went do
wn about 15 miles east around 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
FAA Lynn Lunsford said Roy Bennett (A member of the of the Democratic Movement Party in Zimbabwe) – Was one of the deceased on the private Huey helicopter. New Mexico Police named the victims and their whereabouts.
“57 -year-old Jamie Coleman, of Trinidad, Colorado The co-pilot, 67-year-old Paul Cobb, of Conroe, Texas; 61-year-old Charles Ryland Burnett, of Houston; and Bennett’s wife, 55-year-old Heather Bennett; also died in the crash. ” All perished in the accident but one.
One victim called 911 in Raton to report the crash but didn’t know the location of the incident. Multiple Agencies began looking but the terrain made this much more difficult.
When the officers finally found the helicopter, it was completely engulfed in flames.
