Zamara Gonzales Killed and 2 Injured in Davie Pollo Tropical Crash at 5780 S University Dr.
Davie, Florida (December 10, 2017) – The Davie Police Department reported that one person was killed and two others were injured after a car slammed into a fast-food restaurant Friday afternoon in Davie.
Police identified the victim who died as 41-year-old Zamara Gonzales, of Hallandale Beach.
The fatal crash happened at approximately 3:00 p.m. Friday, December 8 at the Lakeside Town Shops plaza at 5780 S. University Dr.
As per the report, a red Toyota Matrix driven by Jesus Bisball, of Hollywood, collided with a black Mercedes-Benz E550 driven by Stacy Masik-Mahaffy before crashing into a Pollo Tropical. Authorities said that Mahaffy failed to stop at a stop sign and struck the driver’s side of the Toyota. The Toyota rotated counterclockwise and then crossed the parking lot before going through the glass window into a booth by the window of the restaurant. Gonzales, who was sitting at the booth, was trapped under the Toyota for around 15 minutes.
Firefighters came to Gonzales’ rescue and gave her chest compressions before taking her to a hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, Steve Pierre and a 7-year-old boy were injured by flying debris. They were taken to a hospital, and Pierre was expected to fully recover while the boy suffered a lacerated liver, broken rib and a pulmonary hematoma. He was expected to survive the injuries.
Police officers are conducting an investigation into the cause of the incident.
