Driver Arrested after Fort Lauderdale Fatal Bicycle Crash on Northwest 19th Street
Fort Lauderdale, Florida (January 3, 2018) – A teenage bicyclist was killed and another injured after being struck by a hit-and-run driver on Friday night in Fort Lauderdale, according to authorities.
The accident occurred at around 8:13 p.m. Friday, December 29 in the 3300 block of Northwest 19th Street, south of West Oakland Park Boulevard.
According to Fort Lauderdale Police Department, 19-year-old Michael Jumpp was driving a car eastbound on Northwest 19th Street when he failed to stop after striking 13-year-old Zaghwe St. Dic and 15-year-old Cedric Tipton, who were riding bicycles south across the street.
The victims were rushed To Broward Health Medical Center with critical injuries.
St. Dic succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
Jumpp later contacted the police and was arrested. He was charged with failure to stop at the scene of a fatal and serious-injury accident.
