Nicholas Novak Killed in Fatal Port Charlotte Motorcycle Accident
Port Charlotte, Florida (November 15, 2017) – A 19-year-old man was killed when he was involved in a traffic collision Tuesday evening in Port Charlotte, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The male motorcyclist has been identified as Nicholas Kole Novak, of Port Charlotte.
The crash happened on Tuesday, November 14 at the intersection of El Jobean Road and Cornelius Boulevard.
FHP explained that a Suzuki motorcycle driven by Novak was traveling westbound at an extremely high rate of speed while approaching the intersection. Meanwhile, a Dodge Ram 2500 headed eastbound tried to make a left turn at the intersection when Novak struck its passenger side. Novak was thrown from the motorcycle by the impact. The Dodge then crashed into a utility pole.
Novak died at the scene of the incident while the passenger in the Ram sustained minor wounds and was transported to the North Port Emergency Room for treatment. The driver of the Ram was not injured.
Police officers said that Novak was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
An investigation to determine whether alcohol and/or drugs were involved in the fatal event is ongoing.
