Immokalee Bicyclist Justino Garcia Injured in Collier County Crash with Car in Collier County
Collier County, Florida (November 23, 2017) – According to Florida Highway Patrol, a bicyclist was left with serious injuries in a crash with a car, that fled the scene Wednesday morning in Collier County.
Justino Alva Garcia, 69, of Immokalee, was riding a bicycle when he was struck at the intersection of State Road 29 and 6th Street at around 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 22.
Troopers said Isabel Maria Iria,24, of Lehigh Acres, was traveling northbound on State Road 29 when she failed to yield the right of way to Garcia, who was riding across a marked crosswalk at the intersection. Iria struck Garcia and continued driving northbound on State Road 29.
A witness contacted the authorities and followed Iria, who was later apprehended.
Garcia was seriously injured and was transported to NCH North Naples Hospital.
According to police, Iria is facing charges of failure to yield at an intersection, driving with an expired license, causing a crash with bodily injuries and fleeing the scene of a crash.
