Wellington Man John Stermer Fatally Struck by Vehicle While Walking Dogs on Big Blue Trace
Wellington, Florida (December 24, 2017) – A man was struck and killed while walking his dogs along a sidewalk in Wellington early Saturday morning.
According to Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened at around 12:10 a.m. Saturday, December 23, along Big Blue Trace.
Deputies said Jason K. Carter of Wellington, was driving a 2014 Ford Mustang south on Big Blue Trace when he tried to go past a 2015 Jeep Wrangler driven in front of him.
Carter failed to control his speed as he accelerated and rear-ended the Jeep, causing it to rotate and traveled into the sidewalk.
The Jeep struck John Stermer, 74, of Wellington and his dogs, who were on the sidewalk.
Stermer was killed in the crash.
Details on the condition of the dogs were unavailable.
The crash is under investigation.
