A man from Key West dies on Tuesday morning in a crash that was involving a broken-down SUV and another vehicle containing 3 toddlers.
51-year-old Gerald Don Cameron was helping 27-year-old Benjamin Scott Feicht move his broken-down vehicle from the R&R Diesel parking lot using a forklift that connected to the Explorer’s rear bumper when the incident happened.
Cameron turned the forklift on while Feicht steered the SUV to get into the northbound lanes on Fifth Avenue which is just south of Shrimp Road.
Cameron then untied the strap so that he could put it on the front bumper of the car. As soon as Cameron bent over, a driver of a Nissan Rogue hit him.
The driver of the Rogue was 29-year-old Lieter Morales Gallardo along with three toddlers, who never braked or slowed down before she hit Cameron.
State Troopers reported that Cameron was squashed between two cars and rushed to Lower Keys Hospital where he later died.
According to Florida Highway Patrol, charges are pending depending upon the investigation.
