63-Year-Old Michigan Man David Fons Killed in Lee County Crash
Lee County, Florida (December 14, 2017) – According to Florida Highway Patrol, one man was killed in a crash involving two vehicles at Alico and Gator Road in Lee County Monday afternoon.
The crash happened about 2:05 p.m. Monday, December 11 at Alico and Gator roads in Lee County.
According to FHP, 63-year-old David Joseph Fons was driving a Nissan Versa eastbound on Alico Road approaching Gator Road on the left turn Road. At the same time, a Volvo semitrailer, driven by 35-year-old Raydel Gray Gonzalez of Lehigh Acres, was driving westbound in the inside lane of Alico Road, approaching Gator Road.
FHP said the two vehicles were both approaching a red light.
As per the report, Fons made a left turn into the intersection while Gonzalez continued traveling west on Alico Road. The front right of Fons’ vehicle hit the front part of Gonzalez’s vehicle.
Following the crash, the Nissan spun counter-clockwise and came to a stop facing southwest across westbound lanes of Alico Road. The Volvo proceeded and came to rest facing west on the north shoulder of Alico Road.
Fons was killed in the crash.
Gonzalez was transported to Lee Memorial Hospital for minor injuries. No case of alcohol was reported in the crash and the FHP did not say whether charges were pending.
The incident remains under investigation.
