Zachariah Howard Falls Asleep, Crashes Into another Vehicle on State Road 293
Okaloosa County, Florida (February 16, 2018) – A man was seriously injured after he fell asleep and crashed into another vehicle Thursday morning in Okaloosa County, reported the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, February 15 on State Road 293 on the Mid-Bay Bridge.
As per the report, 27-year-old Zachariah Howard was traveling northbound in a 2000 Ford Ranger pickup when he fell asleep and drifted into the southbound lane, and into the path of a 2017 Mack truck. The two vehicles crashed.
The pickup traveled back across the northbound lane and onto the paved east shoulder. Its front end struck the concrete bridge face.
Howard sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Christopher McDaniel, 44, of DeFuniak Springs was the driver of the Mack truck. He was not injured in the accident.
FHP said Howard was cited for failure to use due care.
