Venice Woman Seriously Injured in Interstate 75 Crash in Sarasota County
Sarasota County, Florida (November 4, 2017) – A Venice woman suffered major injuries Friday night when her car overturned following a crash on I-75 in Sarasota County Friday night, authorities said.
The incident happened just before 8:30 p.m. Friday, November 3.
Authorities say a 2014 Toyota Corolla and a 2011 Toyota Venza were stopped for traffic in the outside lane of the southbound I-75 near 181mile marker. FHP said a 2005 GMC Sierra driving behind the two vehicles failed to stop and hit the rear of the Venza.
The impact caused the Venza to rotate onto the shoulder and overturned. The driver of the Venza, a 63-year-old woman, was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Her name was not immediately released.
The Sierra also hit the left side of the Toyota Corolla, according to the FHP.
The driver of the Sierra, a 27-year-old Port Charlotte man, sustained minor injuries but was not taken to the hospital.
The 23-year-old Tampa man driving the Corolla was not hurt.
No further information regarding the crash was provided.
The incident remains under investigation.
