Vaughn Monson Killed in Ocala Two-Vehicle Collision at State Rd 200 and Southwest 66th St
Ocala, Florida (December 4, 2017) – A man perished after he was involved in a two-vehicle collision Sunday morning in Ocala, according to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol.
The man was identified by the FHP as 22-year-old Vaughn Monson, of Bradenton.
The fatal collision transpired at about 6:00 a.m. Sunday, December 3 at the intersection of State Road 200 and Southwest 66th Street.
Troopers stated that the Chrysler was traveling east on SR 200 when it barreled through a red light and struck a Ford which was trying to turn left from Southwest 66th Street onto SR 200. The two vehicles collided with their fronts, sending the Chrysler across the westbound lanes into a ditch.
Police officers said that the Chrysler was perhaps related to an open theft case as they had tried to conduct a traffic stop on it but it escaped. They did not pursue it.
Monson, the right rear passenger of the Chrysler, was pronounced dead at ORMC. The other three occupants of the Chrysler- the driver, Altione Walker, 26; and passengers Curleatha Brown, 32, and Curdarrius Brown, 18, all of Ocala- sustained minor wounds and were taken to local hospitals.
The Ford driver, Curtis Brewer, 62, of Ocala, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
Brewer was wearing a seat belt at the time of the incident.
An investigation into the deadly crash is ongoing by the authorities.
