Pedestrian Struck by Van on SR 200 Hospitalized
Marion County, FL (September 18, 2017) – The pedestrian that was struck by a van early Sunday morning has been brought to the hospital with critical injuries.
The Florida Highway Patrol released a report indicating the incident occurred around 2:05 a.m. September 17 on State Road 200, near Southwest 11th Avenue.
The report showed that the female pedestrian suddenly walked on the northbound lane of the road at the same time that a Toyota van was driving on it. The driver, 50-year-old Ray Willis Coy, veered his vehicle to avoid striking the pedestrian but was unsuccessful. The right front of the van hit the pedestrian.
First responders transported the female pedestrian to Ocala Regional Medical Center. They reported her with “life-threatening injuries.”
The FHP indicated that the driver remained at the scene. His passenger, 22-year-old Patrick Coy, was uninjured.
The FHP indicated no charges on the press release.
