Truck Driver Killed in Alachua County Collision with Train on U.S. 301

Hawthorne, Florida (December 21, 2017) – A Palatka man was killed in a dump truck collision with a CSX train on Wednesday morning in Hawthorne, a Florida Highway Patrol report said.
The incident took place just before 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, near the intersection of U.S. 301 and Southeast 111th Avenue.
Troopers said Terry Owens, 59, of Palatka, was driving a dump truck eastbound on Southeast 111th Avenue when it was struck by a CSX train traveling northbound on U.S. Highway 301.
Owens was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.
The victim was the only occupant of the truck at the time of the accident.
No other injuries were reported.
FHP is investigating the crash.
