A man from Fort Myers is killed in an accident involving a police cruiser from the Lee County’s Sheriff’s Office later Saturday Evening.
The accident happened around 9:30 P.M. on Saturday (March 31) in Estero, FL.
The driver of the police cruiser was 29-year-old Tyler Davolt who was traveling south on U.S. 41. Davolt was heading to an intersection with a green light when 29-year-old Steven Mammarella tried to cross the U.S. 41 northside intersection while he was on his bicycle.
Mammarella veered onto the path of the police cruiser and the front right of the cruiser hit his bicycle on the left side.
Mammarella was rushed to Gulf Coast Medical Center where he later died from his injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol stated that Mammarella was not wearing a helmet during the time of the crash and Davolt did not have any emergency lights activated and was also not traveling to an emergency call.
