40-Year-Old Driver Injured in Columbia County Semi-Truck Crash on I-75
Columbia County, Florida (January 23, 2018) – A 40-year-old Valdosta man suffered serious injuries in a collision involving two semi-trucks on Monday night in Columbia County, the Florida Highway Patrol reported.
The crash occurred on Interstate 75 southbound near exit 439 on Monday, January 22.
FHP said Scott Fisher, 40, of Valdosta, was driving a semi-truck northbound on I-75 when he drifted leftwards and crossed through the guardrails separating the northbound and southbound lanes.
A second semi-truck that was being driven by Tolman Collet, 56, of Debary, struck the rear of Fisher’s truck.
The impact of the collision caused Fisher’s truck to jackknife and strike a guardrail. Collet’s truck swerved off the side of the roadway and went up in flames.
The emergency crews transported Fisher to Shands Gainesville with serious injuries. Collet was treated for minor injuries.
All southbound lanes of I-75 were closed down as the scene was examined and cleared.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
