Man Injured in Bartow Auto-Pedestrian Crash on U.S. 17 S.
Bartow, Florida (December 31, 2017) – A pedestrian was injured when he was struck by a vehicle on Tuesday evening in Bartow.
According to a report by the Bartow Police Department, the accident took place in the 295 block of U.S. 17 S. at around 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 26.
Police said Roger Washington, 69, of Bartow was standing on a curb at the shoulder of U.S. 17 S. when he stepped into the roadway in an attempt to cross the road.
At the same time, Manual Salinas, 51, of Bartow was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado southbound on the road when he tried to avoid Washington but ended up striking him.
Washington was rushed to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with multiple broken bones and a head injury.
Police said speed was unlikely a factor in the crash and that charges were not expected.
We wish a quick recovery to Roger Washington. It is disheartening when a reckless party subjects an innocent person to suffering.
