Oakland Park Man Robert Gray Fatally Struck by Freight Train in Oakland Park
Oakland Park, Florida (December 8, 2017) – A 38-year-old man was fatally struck by a CSX freight train on Thursday morning in Oakland Park, according to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Gray, 38, of Oakland Park, was killed in the accident that took place at about 3:55 a.m. near West Prospect Road and Powerline Road.
Gray, a father of three, was a construction worker who lived a short distance from the rail tracks.
It is unclear what Gray was doing on the tracks when the crash happened.
The train was traveling southbound and loaded with mixed freight. Two people aboard were not injured.
The crash affected the Tri-Rail passenger trains which use the tracks with CSX.
Westbound Commercial Boulevard at Interstate 95 was closed as the scene was being cleared.
