Richard Louis Collett Killed in Pinellas Park Construction Accident on 102nd Avenue N.
Pinellas Park, Florida (December 29, 2017) – A 27-year-old Dunedin man died in a construction accident that took place Thursday morning in Pinellas Park, a local news source reported.
The man has been identified as Richard Louis Collett.
Collett died while working in a building renovation project at around 10:10 a.m. Thursday, December 28 in the 6651 block of 102nd Avenue N.
According to the article, Collett was operating a 14-foot scissor lift as part of building renovation project. He had been standing on top of the scissor lift using a joystick type controller to move the motorized scissor lift out of the building.
Collet attempted to leave the building through a double door when he trapped his head between the top of the lift rail and the entrance door.
Collett sustained severe trauma to his head. A co-worker found him injured and unresponsive.
Authorities were informed, and paramedics responded and pronounced him dead.
Collett was an electrician apprentice and an employee of Sunrise Electric of Pinellas.
Police say the death appeared to be accidental.
The Pinellas County Medical Examiner’s Office will do an autopsy.
Occupational Health and Safety Administration officers are doing an investigation into the accident.
