St. Petersburg Man Killed and Two Others Injured in Hillsborough County Crash on CR 579
Hillsborough County, Florida (January 12, 2018) – A 34-year-old St. Petersburg man died in a head-on collision that sent two others to a hospital on Thursday morning in Hillsborough County.
The accident took place at around 7:30 a.m. Thursday, January 11 on County Road 579 near Joe Ebert Road, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said a 2002 Chevrolet pickup driven northbound on CR 579 crossed the centerline and collided with a southbound 2015 Ford F250 Super Duty truck that was being driven by Larry Poe, 47, of Thonotosassa.
Richard Johnson, 34, of St. Petersburg was a passenger in the Chevrolet and had to be pulled out of the wreckage. He was rushed to Tampa General Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Two other occupants of the Chevrolet, David Chamberlin, 52, of St. Petersburg and Joshua Allen Murphey, 26, of Largo, were both hospitalized at Tampa General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Poe and a child riding with him were both treated for minor injuries at Brandon Hospital.
Police are investigating the accident.
