The following information will describe ways in which physicians can be researched online. Each way will have a link attached to it which is managed by another individual, not us.
Typically, the following three websites of Florida Government are used to search for a physician, those include:
- This link will open a new tab: Florida Medical License search
This is the first site that should be used because it will guide the individual on how to use the websites that proceed. It is a basic website that provides identifying information on the physician. Specific information such as the county, city, or the exact spelling of the physicians first name is not required in order to search for a physician’s information. Once the physician has been found, specific information is provided which will enable the researcher to properly use the other websites. The information provided includes the physician’s license number, the address of their practice, and the precise spelling of their name. In the physician’s profile website, there will be a direct link that pertains to the license information of the physician.
- This link will open a new tab: Online Florida Physicians Profile
Within this website, there will be a lot of information about the physician, but the information that is provided on this website, except for the background criminal history, is not verified by the State of Florida. It is information that was given by the physician. Some information that will be provided on this website includes the locations where the physician is licensed, any criminal convictions that they may have had, the board of certification that they have, the medical school that they attended, any involvement with the community, awards, their training for residency, disciplinary actions against them, involvement in committees, and medical malpractice. Finding information that negatively impacts the physician is reliable, but not finding any evidence of negative information is not something the researcher should rely on. In the claims history website, there will be a direct link that pertains to the medical claims against the physician.
- Previous Medical Malpractice Claims History of Florida Physician
Within this website, information regarding hospitals, lawyers, and physicians medical malpractice claims that were paid by an insurance company in Florida will be present. The Financial Services Department in Florida is the organization that maintains this site. This information that is available to the public is not given out by many states. It is important to research by county, not the state. A physician is constantly moving within the same state and information can get mixed up. Also, hospital names and physician names may have some variations, which is important to watch out for when searching for them. There is a frequent change in hospital names. The search of the physician should be conducted by their last name because a physician’s middle name will sometimes be included and other times it may not. This database has a lot of information that is not present, although the one that is supplied is useful. This following information is not listed within this webpage:
- Cases of medical malpractice that may be pending
- Technicality won cases by the physician
- Other state claims that may have been filed against the physician
- Claims that were paid out-of-pocket by the physician
- Information regarding Florida’s disciplinary actions
- Information regarding Hospitals against physician disciplinary action
- Unreported paid claims of an insurance company
- Teaching Hospital practicing claims
