Gulf County, Florida (January 5, 2018) – A 43-year-old woman suffered fatal injuries on Wednesday afternoon when two vehicles collided head-on in Gulf County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The collision occurred at around 4:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 3, on U.S. Highway 98.
Troopers said 43-year-old Rachael Harrell of Carrabelle was driving a 2018 Kia Rio eastbound on Highway 98 when she, for unknown reasons, crossed the yellow line and collided head-on with a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado pickup that was pulling a gooseneck trailer.
The crash caused the Kia to swerve sideways and strike a guardrail on the south side.
Harrell was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet, 39-year-old Charles Allen Lanford of Port St. Joe, sustained minor injuries.
FHP ruled out intoxication as a factor in the crash.
