Wrong-Way Driver Kills 19-Year-Old Driver in State Road 60 Crash
Osceola County, FL (September 4, 2017) – A 19-year-old driver was killed in a head-on collision on State Road 60 Sunday evening. According to Florida Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 10:20 p.m. September 3 in south Osceola County.
The report showed that 27-year-old Natasha Johnson Smith, of Spring Hill, drove her 2011 BMW west on the eastbound lane of the highway as she attempted to pass by the other drivers in front of her. 29-year-old Jacob Black, of Fort Pierce, was driving his 2015 Jeep eastbound on the same road. When he noticed the BMW approaching, Black swerved his vehicle onto the shoulder to avoid getting hit by the car.
Unfortunately, a Volkswagen Golf GTI, driven by 19-year-old Peter Finucane-Terlop, of Plant City, was behind the Jeep and was unable to see the wrong-way BMW vehicle. Both the Volkswagen and BMW crashed left front to left front.
The impact killed Finucane-Terlop on the spot.
Smith was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center for the treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash. She will be facing pending charges, according to troopers.
Black was not injured in the crash. The left rear tire on his vehicle sustained damage.
Investigators reported that all the drivers involved in the crash were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
We extend our condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
