Pedestrian Killed in Charlotte County Crash with Vehicle on Veterans Boulevard.
Charlotte County, Florida (December 13, 2017) – A pedestrian died Tuesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle on Veterans Boulevard, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The accident took place on Veterans Boulevard at Theresa Boulevard around 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, December 12.
FHP said 27-year-old Benjamin Umbras of Port Charlotte was driving a 2000 Acura TL eastbound on Veterans Boulevard approaching Theresa Boulevard when he made a turn to travel southwest at the intersection.
A pedestrian who was standing on the grassy northeast side walked into the path of the Acura and was struck. Umbras tried to avoid striking the pedestrian by moving rightwards but ended up hitting the victim, then struck a curb and crashed into a ditch
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Umbras sustained minor injuries and was transported to Fawcett Memorial Hospital.
Police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
