Monika Wicks Killed and Patrick McKinney Critically Injured in Pasco County Motorcycle Crash on US 19
Pasco County, Florida (December 19, 2017) – A woman died, and a man was critically injured in a motorcycle accident Sunday night in Pasco County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The woman was identified by the FHP as 24-year-old Monika Elizabeth Wicks, of Hudson, while the man was identified as 29-year-old Patrick McKinney, also of Hudson.
The fatal crash happened at precisely 8:15 p.m. Sunday, December 17 on U.S. 19 N south of New York Avenue.
As per the report log, a 2003 Kawasaki driven by McKinney was headed south on US 19 at a high rate of speed when it tried to overtake a 2004 Ford F150 driven by 50-year-old Teresa N. Barthle, of Hudson. The motorcycle then struck the rear of the pickup truck and the rider together with his passenger were thrown from the bike.
Wicks, the motorcycle passenger, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
Meanwhile, McKinney was transported to Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in critical condition. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fatal crash.
