Boynton Beach Train Crash Kills Melissa Lavell
Boynton Beach, Florida (January 14, 2018) –A woman was struck and killed in a train crash in Boynton Crash Friday evening, authorities said.
The crash took place around 6:25 p.m. Friday, January 12, in Boynton Beach.
According to authorities, the 31-year-old woman, Melissa Lavell was trying to cross the tracks after the guard rails were lowered expecting to get to the other side before the train arrives.
Lavell was struck by the Brightline high-speed train that was doing preview runs one day before its launch. Politicians, reporters, and others were offered rides. Lavell was killed in the crash.
No injuries were reported among the train occupants.
According to Brightline, warning devices at the railroad crossing were functioning properly when the crash happened.
No further information was provided about the crash.
The wreck remains under investigation.
