Broward County Girl Melani Rivera Killed in Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Nova Drive in Davie
Davie, Florida (February 14, 2018) – A 16-year-old girl who was hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle on Thursday morning in Davie has died from the injuries she sustained.
According to authorities, 16-year-old Melani Rivera was injured in the accident that happened at around 6 a.m. Thursday, February 8, in the 8200 block of Nova Drive.
Police said Rivera was trying to cross the street to a bus stop when she was knocked down by a Jeep Compass driven by 100-year-old Rosamond Preseau.
The force of the crash pushed Rivera into a nearby golf cart crossing.
Rivera was transported to Broward General Hospital with a head injury. She underwent multiple brain surgeries and succumbed to her injuries on Monday, February 12.
Police said Preseau remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators.
No charges had been filed yet in connection with the crash.
