Car-Bicycle Crash on U.S. 1 Injures Maria Candelaria Huete Hernandez
Stock Island, FL (October 26, 2017) – A bicyclist attempting to cross a road Wednesday evening was airlifted to the hospital for injuries sustained in the crash.
The Florida Highway Patrol reported that the incident took place around 9:27 p.m. October 25 on U.S. 1 at Mile Marker 5 near CVS pharmacy.
The report showed that 36-year-old Maria Candelaria Huete Hernandez, of Stock Island, rode her bike on the highway. As she attempted to cross the road, she was struck by a 2016 Toyota Avalon heading north.
Hernandez was transported to Ryder Trauma Center via helicopter, where she is listed in stable condition.
The driver of the Avalon, 41-year-old Mary Margaret Edington, of Summerland Key, was not injured in the incident.
Neither drugs nor alcohol was suspected to be factors in the crash.
The FHP cited Hernandez for failure to yield right of way.
