Tractor Trailer Crash into Three-Wheel Bicycle Killing Rider on U.S. 301 near Northeast 175th Street
Citra, Florida (December 15, 2017) – According to Florida Highway Patrol one man was hit and killed by a tractor-trailer in Citra early Thursday.
The crash happened at about 3 a.m. Thursday, December 14, on U.S. 301 near Northeast 175th Street.
FHP said the man was riding a red three-wheel bicycle in the median trying to cross the southbound lanes on U.S. 301 in a dark area. The tractor-trailer, which was traveling southbound in the outside lanes, crashed into the tricycle, wedging it underneath the truck.
According to FHP, the bicyclist died in the crash. The driver of the tractor-trailer 49-year-old, Patrick Lee of Jacksonville was not injured.
The name of the victim was not immediately released. He was a white man, 63, with brown hair and mustache, from Cleveland, Ohio area. He is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighed 190 pounds. He was wearing brown Jacket, blue jeans, and blue running shoes, FHP said.
The incident remains under investigation.
