Amtrak train collision involving SUV in North Carolina. Pastor Eugene, and his wife Dorothy died immediately at the scene of the lethal incident.
A common, everyday pastor in North Carolina and his wife died Sunday after a train collision involving the couple. The train T-boned the SUV and due to the lethal accident the two died directly at the scene.
Eugene tried to go around a lowered crossing arm in order to cross the tracks and get out of the way in time.
While doing this (just after 2:20 p.m.) an Amtrak train collided with the SUV in Whitakers, about 10 miles north of Rocky Mount.
The couple are identified as Eugene and Dorothy Lyons by WNCN.
It’s especially relevant to note Whitakers Police Chief Darrell Cofield explains that train accidents here aren’t uncommon.
“It bothered me because growing up here I’ve seen train wrecks before,
it really touches close to home with people who grew up with and know,” – Darrell Cofield
In addition, no one aboard the train seemed to be injured, but the trains service was suspended. Eugene Lyons was a pastor in Whitakers.
