DeSoto County, Florida (December 24, 2017) – A 51-year-old man was killed in a fatal multi-vehicle crash on Friday evening in DeSoto County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash happened at around 6:40 p.m. on Friday, December 22 on State Road 70.
According to troopers, 53-year-old Brent Lewis of Arcadia was driving a pickup truck when he attempted to turn right onto State Road 70 and hit a semi-truck driven westbound on SR 70 by 28-year-old Jameson N. Stowbridge of Clinton, N.C.
The crash pushed the semi-truck into eastbound traffic and collided head-on with a Dodge Dakota, driven by 41-year-old Miguel Basurto-Monroy of Bradenton. The crash caused the Dodge to flip over.
The semi-truck then collided with another eastbound car driven by 51-year-old Larry R. John of Boynton Beach, pushing it into a ditch at the side of the road.
Troopers said John suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Basurto-Monroy was treated for minor injuries.
Stowbridge and Lewis were not injured in the crash.
FHP arrested Lewis and charged him with DUI manslaughter, DUI property damage and driving without a license.
