On the morning of February 27, Keith B. Brooker dies when crashed into two trees right after he was fleeing from a traffic stop.
Police officers tried to pull him over Brooker’s gray Mercedes-Benz at the corner of N 40TH Street and E Chelsea Street because Brooker failed to stop at a stop sign.
The police officers turned on their emergency equipment lights, and the Mercedes turned off his headlights and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. As a TPD policy, the officers turned their emergency equipment off and backed away from the Mercedes. The officers then headed northbound on N 42nd Street and were no longer in the line of sight of the feeling vehicle.
A few minutes later, the officers were notified of a crash nearby at the Myrtle Hill Cemetery which was a few blocks away. When the officers arrived at the scene, they discovered that the grey Mercedes that they tried to pull over was also involved in the crash.
The investigation led by police stated that the car was traveling at high speed and it veered off into the road and hit two trees. Officers identified the Mercedes driver as 34-year-old Keith B. Brooker which was pronounced dead at the scene.
