John Hollingsworth Hospitalized in US 27 Traffic Crash in Clewiston
Clewiston, Florida (January 14, 2018) – A man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in Clewiston, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The FHP identified the man as 77-year-old John Hollingsworth, of Moore.
The collision transpired at around 4:53 p.m. Friday, January 12 on US 27 near County Road 720.
Troopers stated that a westbound 1998 Dodge Durango driven by Hollingsworth on US 27 was in the inside lane while an eastbound Volvo truck with trailer driven by 39-year-old Luis Nazario was in the outside lane of US 27. Hollingsworth lost control of his vehicle, and it crossed the grass median into the eastbound lanes, hitting the left side of the truck with its front. The impact of the crash caused the Dodge to propel back into the median and was overturned. Meanwhile, the truck rotated anticlockwise before coming to a stop in the eastbound lanes. The left fuel tank of the truck was also ruptured.
Hollingsworth suffered serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Lee Memorial Hospital for treatment.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
