Jennifer Johns, Dionicio Quevedo and Three Others Injured in US-41 Crash in Sarasota County
Sarasota County, Florida (December 17, 2017) – Five people were injured on Saturday night in a multi-vehicle wreck on U.S. 41 in Sarasota County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol
Four vehicles were involved in the crash that occurred at around 7:24 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, at the intersection of U.S. 41 and River Road.
Troopers said Jennifer Johns, 36, of Port Charlotte, was driving a Mazda northbound on River Road when she failed to stop on a red light at the intersection of U.S. 41 and was t-boned by a Nissan truck, driven eastbound on U.S. 41 by Dionicio Quevedo, 50, of North Port.
The crash caused the Mazda to rotate across U.S. 41 and hit the left side of a Honda Civic, driven westbound on U.S. 41 by Leonid Kanter, 36, of Bradenton.
After the initial crash, debris from the Nissan truck hit the driver’s side of a Toyota Scion, whose driver was Alyssa Gobbie, 23, of Rotonda West, and was sitting at the intersection.
Troopers said Johns was airlifted to Sarasota Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.
A passenger in Johns’ vehicle, Alexander Parrilla, 30, of Port Charlotte was transported to Venice Bayfront Hospital.
Quevedo and his two passengers, Elizabeth Quevedo, 21, and Devin Quevedo, 13, all of North Port, were all transported to Venice Bayfront with minor injuries.
Troopers said Gobbie, Kanter and his passenger, 25-year-old Kateryna Mizina of Bradenton were all uninjured in the crash.
FHP cited johns for failure to obey a red light.
