Frostproof Teenager Jasmine Navarro Critically Hurt in U.S. 27 Two-Car Crash
Frostproof, Florida (November 30, 2017) – A 19-year-old woman sustained critical injuries on Wednesday night in a collision between two cars on U.S. 27 in Frostproof, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office reported.
The incident occurred shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday, November 29.
The report stated that Sally Cruz Navarro, 42, of Frostproof, was driving a 2012 Kia Soul northbound on U.S. 27 when she rear-ended a 2013 Toyota Tacoma, driven by Dennis Eckert, 45, also of Frostproof.
The crash caused the truck to overturn upside down in the median. The Kia threw Navarro’s daughter, Jasmin Navarro, 19, then came to rest across the northbound lanes of the highway.
Deputies said Jasmin, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to Florida Hospital Heartland Medical Center, then later airlifted to Tampa General Hospital.
Both drivers were not injured as they were wearing their seatbelts.
The northbound lanes of the highway were closed for close to four hours due to the accident.
