Panama City, FL – The Florida Highway Patrol reports that there is an ongoing investigation after a Panama City Department Officer struck a pedestrian Thursday morning.
36-year old Mark Bohrer Panama City Police officer is currently being investigated after the homicide of 53-year old Craig Finch. The accident took place between 11th Street and Grace Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. The Florida Highway Patrol mapped the area of the street where the accident occurred, tracing the splotches of blood. The street between Jenks and Harrison Avenue remained closed for hours while they performed their investigation.
Before the crash, Officer Bohrer was facing south on Grace Avenue at the intersection of 11th Street, reported the Florida Highway Patrol. Finch was facing north toward 11th Street on the east edge of Grace Avenue when he entered the roadway at the same time that Bohrer attempted to make a left turn onto 11th.
Troopers wrote, “The pedestrian fell onto the roadway, and the patrol car traveled over the pedestrian while negotiating the left turn – the pedestrian was transported to Bay Medical where he was pronounced dead.”
Charges are pending the outcome of their findings while the FHP will be speaking to witnesses, interviewing Bohrer, and reviewing the dash cam and neighboring businesses.
The crash was turned over to the Florida Highway Patrol for traffic homicide investigation by Chief Scott Ervin.
