Tri-Rail spokeswoman Bonnie Arnold said that the accident occurred at the railroad crossing in Oakland Park Boulevard just west of Interstate-95 at 1:10 p.m. Friday leaving a 77-year old man dead by an accident with an Amtrak train.
She mentioned that there were no other injuries reported.
Broward Sheriff’s Office said that the 77-year old man, Charles Stringfield from Fort Lauderdale for driving his Lexus into the path of the Amtrak train that was going northbound as it went through the crossing.
Stringfield was pronounced dead at the scene as his Lexus was struck on the passenger-side read fender having his car spin it into a metal pole.
The crash caused the service to be closed for at least a couple of hours, stated Arnold.
Officials mentioned that West Oakland road was closed in both directions, along with the exit ramp from Southbound I-95 to Westbound Oakland Park Boulevard.
Investigations of the cause of the crash are still under investigation.
