Crash on U.S. 60 in Lake Wales Kills Winter Haven Man
Lake Wales, Florida (January 19, 2018) – An 81-year-old Winter Haven man was killed in a fatal Wednesday night car crash in Lake Wales, according to Lake Wales Police Department.
The two-vehicle crash took place at around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, at the intersection of U.S. 60 and 9th Street.
Police said Edward Ethington, 81, of Winter Haven, was heading north on 9th Street in a 2015 Chrysler 200 when he stopped at U.S. 60. He then pulled onto U.S 60 and into the path of Aaron Vann, 27, of Lake Wales who was driving a 1998 Ford pickup eastbound on U.S. 60. The two vehicles collided.
The collision caused the Ford to overturn and land on its roof in the eastbound lanes of U.S. 60.
The Chrysler spun and came to a rest on its wheels in the center median.
Ethington was transported to Lake Wales Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
Vann was transported by a helicopter to Lakeland Regional Medical Center where he was hospitalized in stable condition.
