83-Year-Old Man Killed and Two Hospitalized after Leesburg Crash on U.S. 27
Leesburg, Florida (December 16, 2017) – One person was killed, and two others hospitalized Thursday morning following a deadly two-vehicle crash in Leesburg, according to police.
The crash occurred at around 10:05 a.m. on Thursday, December 14, on U.S. Highway 27 near Howard road.
Police said Clarence Chappell Jr., 83, of Leesburg, was pulling out of a parking lot in a 2005 Pontiac van to travel southbound on U.S. 27 when he failed to yield to a right-of-way and collided with a 2003 Ford F-250 pickup, driven northbound by Patrick Hill, 55, of Leesburg.
Chappell, Hill and his passenger were rushed to Leesburg Regional Medical Center.
Chappell was later pronounced deceased at the hospital, police said.
No details were provided on the extent of the injuries sustained by Hill and his passenger.
Police said Chappell was found to be at fault in the crash.
