A car accident can be very traumatic for our mental and physical state. From wrongful death to hitting a parked car, plenty can go wrong in an accident. What tends to happen in a minor car accident people just “shrug” it off, they are not aware of their injuries. I will explain more in detail later but for now, understand that it is imperative you seek medical help right after an accident.
Car accidents increase your adrenaline and reduce pain
The human body creates endorphins and adrenaline to help reduce the sensation of pain and enhance our bodies. When an accident happens, the body starts creating plenty of cells which will heighten our senses and minimize pain. When a car accident occurs just because you do not feel pain does not mean you are fine. Once your body stop producing endorphins and adrenaline, you could start to feel your injuries.
Soft tissues damage in a car accident
Any damage done to the tendon, ligaments or muscles are commonly referred as soft tissue damage. Essentially, any damage NOT done to the bone. When a car accident occurs, your body will suffer from a lot of physical stress. A good example of soft tissue damage is whiplash. When whiplash occurs your head jolts back and forth causing damage to the neck muscles.
These types of damages tend to happen later and usually result in swelling, pain and reduced movements. It can take days or weeks for the symptoms to appear. X-ray cannot detect soft tissue damage. It is paramount that you obtain medical help after your car accident.
Concussions when a car accident takes place
Fluids and the skull protect the Brain. When you are in a car accident, the hit may cause the brain to hit the skull resulting in a concussion. Concussions can lead to severe health issues and often the symptoms do not appear right away. I have noted some symptoms which result from a concussion:
- difficulty concentrating
- hazy thoughts
- harder to learn new things
- vision impairment
- irregular sleeping
- loss of energy
Any of these signs could be the result of a concussion due to a car accident. I would recommend you schedule an appointment with a doctor or visit the emergency room right away.
Visit a physician after your car accident
After your car accident find medical assistance if you feel pain. I would suggest visiting one even if you are feeling good. The doctor will know the gravity of/if any injuries you may have sustained. He would also guide you much better and explain the symptoms to watch out for.
It is also important to your case to have any medical records of treatment, if you wait too long, the insurance of the defendant could always say you took too long and you didn’t suffer to the degree which you stated or at all.
You should never settle a case quickly
What insurances companies tend to do is make you sign a release form with a check to persuade you to sign the form. Before you sign anything, seek a lawyer. You should also wait to be diagnosed by a physician. The physician is the only person who can tell you what your medical condition is and give you the knowledge of the entire scope of treatments and future therapies.
