Two Pedestrians Killed in Ocala Car Crash on State Route 40
Ocala, Florida (January 15, 2018) – A hit-and-run driver killed two women late Saturday night in Ocala, according to a police report.
The incident took place on State Route 40 at the Northeast 1st Avenue crosswalk around 11:34 p.m. on Saturday, January 13.
Police said Alicha Andino, 39, and Jessie Caldero, 28, were attempting to cross SR 40 when they were both struck by a westbound silver Nissan pickup truck traveling at a high rate of speed.
Both women were pronounced dead at the scene.
The Nissan continued traveling westbound after the crash and was later located at the intersection of East SR 40 and North U.S. 441. No one was inside the vehicle when it was found.
The traffic homicide investigation unit is looking into the crash.
