An 80-year-old passenger from Perryville, MD dies in a traffic crash when she is ejected from her vehicle on the morning Tuesday, March 7.
Gertrude Minneman was a passenger in a 2015 Ford Escape along with the 57-year-old driver Thomas R. Stedem Sr., and another passenger 80-year-old Marvin Minneman.
Florida Highway Patrol stated that Stedem was heading eastbound on I-4 which is just east of Alexander Street in Hillsborough County when Stedem drove inside the shoulder to avoid hitting anyone in the stopped and stalled traffic. Another driver Gtraciela Gonzalez who was driving her 2011 Cadillac SRX also drove onto the inside shoulder. William K. Grimer Jr. who was driving a 2017 Ford F350 hit the back of Stedem’ s Ford and pushed the Ford onto the left side of the Cadillac.
The Ford then flipped over and Gertrude Minneman was ejected from the vehicle. Authorities stated that Gertrude Minneman was not wearing a seat belt and was rushed to South Florida Baptist Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Thomas R. Stedem Sr. and Marvin Minneman were treated with minor injuries at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. The other two drivers, Gonzalez and Grimer were not injured in the crash.
