Two Die I-95 Construction Accident in Miami
Miami, Florida (February 5, 2018) – Two workers died in a construction accident that took place Sunday morning in Miami, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Emergency crews responded to the scene at around 3 a.m. Sunday, February 4 on Interstate 95, just north of Northwest 62nd Street.
According to Ignatius Carroll, a Miami Department of Fire Rescue Spokesman, the construction workers were in a trench repairing drainage pipes when one of the cement retaining walls fell on top of them.
Both workers were pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were believed to be in their 20s, Carroll said.
The site of construction was in the middle of the highway, between the north and southbound express lanes.
Authorities shut down the southbound express lanes for several hours to allow an investigation.
Authorities are investigating the accident.
