Thonotosassa Fatal Crash on U.S. 301 Kills One
Thonotosassa, Florida (January 10, 2017) – A man was killed in a crash in Thonotosassa Wednesday morning, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred on Wednesday, January 10, on U.S. 301.
According to FHP, a school bus traveling north on U.S. 301 made a stop at St. Francis lane and picked up a child.
A green Honda stopped behind the Stationary bus and had a mechanical problem. The Honda stalled as a result, and the driver exited to push it out of the road. As he was pushing the vehicle, its lights were off.
A dump truck was traveling northbound, and its driver failed to see the Honda and the pedestrian pushing the car, FHP said.
The dump truck hit the Honda from the behind and was pushed into a van.
The 25-year-old male, Honda driver, died in the crash. The van and dump truck occupants were uninjured.
The road was closed partially and reopened in the afternoon. The school bus was not involved in the actual wreck.
The victim was confirmed to be an adult contrary to the earlier report that indicated he was a child.
The crash remains under investigation.
