One Person Killed in Lee County Plane Crash along Bonita Beach Road
Lee County, Florida (January 22, 2018) – One person was killed in a fatal small plane crash on Monday afternoon in a heavily wooded area in Bonita Springs, according to Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
The accident happened shortly before 12:30 p.m. along Bonita Beach Road east of Interstate 75 in Southeast Bonita Springs.
The sheriff’s office reported that the pilot of a small, single-engine radioed in a mayday call about 15 minutes after take-off from Page Field, near Fort Myers, and went down in a wooded area, about a mile and a half away from the Bonita National Golf Course.
The Bonita Springs Fire Rescue responded to crash and conducted a search with the help of forestry services.
The identity of the deceased victim was not immediately revealed.
NTSB is investigating the crash.
